There are huge misconceptions about Assamese cuisine. In this series, we are going to introduce you to various food items used in Assam. Let’s begin!
We all start our Assamese alphabet with the letter অ (A) and the word that’s used to describe অ is অমিতা/Amita. A for Amita!
We eat Amita as a vegetable and a fruit. It is loaded with nutrients and vitamins.
You have constipation, eat a ripe papaya.
You need healthy skin, eat papaya.
You have inflammation, eat papaya.
It’s a superfood, full of antioxidants, anticancer properties and many more.
The famous Assamese dish called khar is often cooked with papaya. You can also cook it with fish, add it to chicken curry or mutton curry.
We also cook the peels of raw banana with potato. My mom also fry the papaya flowers with potato. Although both these food items are bitter, they are good for your immunity.
