Welcome to the dictionary of Assamese food.
Assamese cuisine is the only regional cuisine that has preserved the basic six tastes of ancient Hindu gastronomy. (Feast and Fast, Colleen Taylor Sen). Unfortunately, when it comes to the culinary map of India, Assam and the rest of North East India often remains blank or full of misinformation.
To mitigate the misinformation and create a database of Assamese food online, this project is started. I will cover different ingredients used in Assamese cuisine and their meaning in English.
In future, if the time and budget permits, I would try to cover the words used by various tribes in Assam too. Initially, the Assamese words will be covered.
If you are an Assamese and would like to contribute to the project, you are more than welcome! Just leave a comment or mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your entries will be published with due credits.
